Online Learning beyond the Classroom

We wanted to know how online learning has specifically shaped Penn State World Campus students and how these teachings have made a difference in their lives. We asked World Campus community members on social media to share one thing that online learning has taught them, and here is what they had to say:

  • “The most valuable lesson I’ve learned from online learning is balance! Strike a balance between all the important aspects of your life, and you won’t feel so out of whack (at least that’s been my experience). At the end of the fall semester, I really locked in for finals, but the rest of the things in my life fell to the wayside. This semester, I’ve found that balance and I feel peaceful.” — Emma V.
  • “How amazing the ‘Penn State World Campus College of Medicine’ Public Health Preparedness students are!” — Jennifer O.
  • “How important time management is!” — Shari W.
  • “With self-discipline, the possibilities are limitless. I am able to learn at my own pace, capable of deeper understanding of complex topics due to the flexibility of courses at Penn State World Campus. I am enjoying every minute of my PSU WC journey.” — David E.
  • “How fortunate I am to have access to a world-class education and still be a full-time mom, boss, wife, public speaker, volunteer, board member, and part-time terrible golfer.” — Amy P.
  • “Penn State World Campus helped me achieve my goal of finishing my college degree 40 years after I graduated high school. The degree choices were varied, and my academic advisers helped me tailor my courses to guide me down the quickest path to graduation, including maximizing my transfer credits. Help was always available if needed, and encouragement and support from both instructors and students. It does take extra discipline to stay focused and not fall behind, but it is all worth it to be able to walk across that stage and be recognized for your achievement (Yes, I did travel to attend the graduation ceremony in person). I cannot say enough about my experience, and I recommend Penn State to anyone considering returning to school to earn or finish a degree.” — Mike D.

Online learning can help develop life skills that can be transformative both inside and outside of the classroom. These tools can then be utilized in different aspects of students' professional and personal lives — now and in the future!
