As a Penn State student, you have free access to thousands of eBooks through the University Libraries. Whether you’re studying for class, conducting research, or just looking for a fun and informative read, Penn State Libraries has you covered with a wide range of digital online books designed to make your academic life easier.

Why Choose eBooks?

eBooks offer several advantages, including:

  • 24/7 access. No need to wait for library hours — our eBooks are available anytime, anywhere. All you need is your Penn State Access ID to log in and start reading.
  • Read on many devices. Access eBooks on your laptop, tablet, and phone. Many titles can be downloaded for offline reading, so you can study on the go — even without Wi-Fi.
  • Save money. Many course materials are available as eBooks, helping you cut down on textbook costs.

Getting Started

  1. Go to the Penn State Libraries Catalog.
  2. Search for your topic or title. Use keywords, book titles, or author names. For example, you could type in the following topic/subject keywords: “Generative Artificial Intelligence.”

After searching, use the filters on the left to select “Online” under “Access” and “Books” under “Format.” Using our example search terms gives you more than a hundred books about Generative AI available online from the library.

  3. Look for the “Online Access” link. When the book is available as an eBook, you’ll see a link like “Full Text Available” or “Online Access” — click it to open the eBook.

Remember to log in with your Penn State credentials. If you haven’t done so, you will be prompted to log in using your Penn State Access ID (e.g., abc1234) and password when you’re off-campus.
