Creating Positive Habits

The start of a new semester can be overwhelming and stressful for students. We asked our Penn State World Campus community members what habit or activity they do at the start of a new semester that helps them stay on track later on. Here are the responses:

“Relax, take it in and say out loud you got this, have fun. Focus on reading and the small print.” — Frederick T.

“Review all of the course assignments to write down deadlines and note any assignments that may need additional time to complete.” — Alicia S.

“Reading the syllabus helps me understand the pace and structure of the course's assignment due dates, so I can focus my time toward studying with the right rigorousness.” — Christopher W.

“Write down the due dates in my planner. I also look into the reading material and, if possible, what is expected for the final.” — Danielle C.

“Making weekly schedules, noting down important dates for midterms and finals, blocking out time for all study time!” — Kusum I.

“Log in every day to do SOMETHING” - Rob K.

While the beginning of a new semester can feel overwhelming, taking action early on and developing plans, habits, and methods to use throughout the whole semester can be helpful.
