Turfgrass Science and Management Internships

The internship course, TURF 295 (3 credits), is a requirement for the Associate in Science in Turfgrass Science and Management designed to provide a bridge between a student’s academic course work and practical, on-site experience. In addition to an intern’s day-to-day duties, the internship course includes an additional project to be completed during the internship. Projects will vary depending on the internship site and the student’s interests. More information can be found in the Internship Packet.

Please keep in mind the following:

  • It is understood that many students are currently employed in the turf industry and also have other commitments that do not allow them to intern at a location other than with their current employer. If a student is currently employed in the turf industry, the internship may be completed at the student’s current place of employment, although students may choose to intern at another location. Students will work in consultation with their supervisor and the TURF 295 instructor to assure that the internship, including the internship project, meets the course requirements.
  • TURF 295 is not offered during spring semesters, so students should plan accordingly in consultation with their academic adviser. TURF 295 is offered every summer and fall semester.
  • In order for students to receive the most benefit from the internship experience, TURF 295 should be taken after a student completes the majority of their required turf courses for the major.
  • Situations may exist where a student cannot complete an on-site internship (active duty military, student not currently employed in the turf industry, etc). In these cases, students may work with the TURF 295 instructor to develop an alternative project.
  • TURF 295 is an enrollment controlled course. Students interested in taking TURF 295 should consult with their academic adviser and then contact Dianne Petrunak ([email protected]) prior to the beginning of the semester they wish to take the course in order to be enrolled in the course.
  • If a student chooses to continue to complete the bachelor’s degree after completing the associate degree, TURF 295 can be used to fulfill the TURF 495 requirement for the bachelor’s degree.
