IST Internship

Penn State World Campus students have the following options to complete the internship requirement. Students can also learn more about World Campus Student Internship Requirements on the College of Information Sciences and Technology website.

Options to Complete the Internship Requirement

Internship

An internship can help enhance your education by providing you with hands-on experience in a professional work environment. As an IST student, you are required to complete an internship for work-related experience. Learn about the different resources available to you, and the steps you must complete toward getting your internship approved and earning credit.

Credit by Portfolio

An alternative to the required internship is completing a portfolio that demonstrates your work experience. The portfolio should include examples of technical work samples created from their full-time work experiences that are no more than two years old. Students can discuss how to fulfill this requirement with their academic adviser.

Distributed Team Project

Another alternative to the required internship is completing the distributed team project in which student teams work on supervised information system design projects. Contact your course instructor in order to schedule this course or read about IST 295B in the Penn State Bulletin.
