More about the artist and theme:
Lance describes his approach to leading this session with a little background information about himself and his journey as a World Campus student.

“In January 2018 I designated a small upstairs room in my house to be the home of my academic and artistic output while pursuing the degree of Master of Professional Studies in Art Education at Penn State. The asynchronous flow of the online course work quickly merged with the controlled chaos of my ongoing creative practice. My academic pursuits came to share the portable nature of my creative process. Although I’d spent many hours actioning my contemplations on the intersection of art and education in that small upstairs room in my house, that room was not my art studio or my academic home. My art studio was in the world and my academic home was a robust, challenging, and rewarding virtual learning community on Penn State World Campus. I encourage artist-participants in the Penn State World Campus Homecoming Paint Night to consider my narrative as a conceptual prompt for the painting process and with a few questions in mind: What is homecoming if your academic home is virtual? Where does your conception of home intersect with your Penn State World Campus experience? How might you, in your role as artist, portray your experience as a Penn State World Campus student? My intention is to guide you, the artist-participant, through a reflexive process of improvised technique to create a painting with notions of coming home to a virtual learning community as its conceptual material.”
