Online tutoring is available for ECON 102 (Introductory Microeconomic Analysis and Policy). Be sure to read through the information on this page to make your session as successful as possible.
How Can ECON 102 Tutoring Help Me?
The economics tutor is an undergraduate student who has successfully completed ECON 102. The tutor also has access to each course section in ANGEL so that he or she may track the progression of each section in order to remain current with the material, so it doesn't matter which section you are from. Our online econ tutors can help:
- answer questions
- review material for quizzes and tests
- provide test preparation and test-taking tips
- establish short- and long-term study goals
How Can I Prepare for My Tutoring Session?
- Work on your assignments and read your text or other materials prior to participating in the session, and have your notes and questions on hand.
- Come prepared to review course content and engage in problem solving with your tutor.
- Know what you want to talk about in the session.
- We strongly recommend using a headset/microphone combination, which will let you communicate efficiently with the tutor.
What Should I Do During the Session?
Be ready to participate. The success of your session hinges on your participation in it. It may be helpful to make use of the emoticons to communicate whether you understand the process the tutor is explaining.
Where Do I Log in to My Tutoring Session?
Your tutoring session will take place in Blackboard Collaborate/Elluminate, a web collaboration application with a built-in chat feature and headset-microphone communication capabilities. Visit the Blackboard Collaborate/Elluminate Product Support page before commencing any tutoring sessions to ensure that your computer is equipped with the proper software. (You will need Java.) We recommend using Firefox as the web browser for your tutoring session.
- Log in to the Penn State Learning appointment scheduler to set up a time to meet with a tutor. If this is your first tutoring session, you will need to complete Penn State Learning's registration. Select "World Campus Economics 102 Tutoring" from the pull-down menu. You will be able to make a 30-minute to 1-hour appointment.
- Fifteen minutes before your appointment, log in to Penn State Learning and click on your tutor's name to take you to the Blackboard Collaborate/Elluminate tutoring session. (If you have scheduled your appointment more than 24 hours in advance, you will have received an email reminder containing a link to your session.)
- After your tutoring session has ended, please complete the evaluation form. Your input is a valuable resource we can use to improve the tutoring process in the future.
How Do I Schedule a Tutoring Session?
Tutoring sessions are offered by appointment throughout the semester. You may schedule an appointment with a tutor via the Penn State Learning website. If this is your first time using tutoring services, you will need to first register for an account with Penn State Learning.
